Mida Creek, Gedi Ruins, Marafa Depression
Pick up from an agreed location in or around Mombasa at 7-8 am. After about a two hour drive, you arrive at Mida Creek (100km from Mombasa). Here you will take part in a guided walk around a mangrove forest, learn about different species of crab that live within the mangrove and watch the different bird species that inhabit the ecosystem.
While in Mida,a walk on ‘Indiana Jones’ cable bridge and a canoe ride to one of the small islands is an exciting feature of the trip, plus a swim in the creek is also pleasant and quite refreshing. Finish the tour with a locally prepared dish of coconut rice, fried fish and some vegetables served at the local restaurant next to the reception desk.
After the delicious lunch, a short half hour drive gets you to Gede Ruins. This is a 15th century Arab settlement with 8 mosques, a palace, houses, wells and tombs as its main features. A Guided visit in the ruins will help you discover more about the ancient town of Gede, and perhaps why it was finally abandoned to its present state. This is real East African history, so pay attention, listen and learn.
After the Gede tour, a visit to the snake center is also as interesting. The display, while very simple and small, gives you a look into some of the reptile species that can be found in Kenya. There is also a small butterfly farm in same location which is also an option for those who have an interest.
Finally, after everyone is happy, we will drive back to Mombasa to get you back to your hotel/drop off location before dinner.
